At AOTCO, our work with the U.S Military and Defense departments requires us to follow a variety of different procedural standards. Whether they are requirements specific to our metal finishing processes or are regulations on our suppliers, our staff are educated on the most recent updates to these specifications. An industry dealing with as many high-pressure situations as the military does, it is essential that these specifications are followed precisely.

AOTCO complies with a wide range of military specifications, or Mil-Specs, that help us continue to provide consistent quality work for our partners in the defense industry.

What is Mil-DTL-45204?

Gold is one of the most versatile finishes in the entire metal finishing industry. One of the most common specs for gold plating is Mil-DTL-45204. The spec supersedes the previous Mil-G-45204 spec and is the current specification sheet for all military gold plating jobs.

The spec includes three types (I, II, and III), four grades (A, B, C, D), and 8 classes (00, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6). Mil-DTL-45204 also includes the intended relationships (or combinations of) grades and types. All these elements make it so our team can quickly determine what thickness, process, and hardness are expected from a respective purchase order.
